Heroes

#thankyoutony – 18/06/18

“Unsung Hero” is where we throw the spotlight on someone – somewhere in the world – who is selflessly doing something to help others or to help animals and the environment.

The reason we do this is there are so many complex issues in the world today – and it can all seem very depressing and demotivating at times. But there are so many ordinary people who have gone out there and said –  you know what, I’m going to go and do something to make the world a better place.

They’re not doing it for fame – they’re certainly not doing it for money. They’re doing it simply because they feel it’s the right thing to do.

And what it shows is that anyone of us can do it, whatever our circumstances. And that we all need to do it – because that’s what democracy is really all about, and frankly we can’t just leave it to the politicians.

So let’s applaud these people – AND get inspired by them. And this week’s story is a really good example of how anyone can go out there and make a real difference.

It comes from Dublin, Ireland.

And it’s about a man called Tony Walsh.

Tony was homeless. He spent 20 years living on the streets. He was an addict, and by his own admission he had hit absolute rock bottom.

18 months ago, though, he finally overcame his addiction. and He got himself into college – and then he went ahead and set up a charity called Feed our Homeless to help others living on the streets of Ireland’s capital.

The charity has since grown and grown, and now runs a soup kitchen 6 nights a week in Dublin where it feeds literally hundreds of people and provides support for them to overcome their problems and get a roof over their heads.  Latest figures show that there are almost 10,000 people who are homeless in Ireland – of which a staggering 3,000 are children. Thanks to Tony though, some of them can now look forward to a proper meal, and getting the help they need.

So let’s send Tony a big thank you for what he’s doing and show him that we really appreciate what he has done and support his charity Feed Our Homeless. Here’s what I want you to do. I want you to open up your computer or get your phone out, and go onto twitter. And I want you to post a simple message: I want you to write #thankyoutony #feedourhomeless, which is the name of his charity.

You can also search Facebook for Feed Our Homeless and leave a comment on their page. Tell Tony what you think about what he’s done – both to turn around his own life, but also to help turn around the lives of hundreds of other people.

So let’s surprise Tony – he doesn’t know we’re doing this – and make his day – and hopefully encourage others to follow his example.

Tony Walsh – Green Future News salutes you.
